Connecting to your site via FTP using Filezilla FTP Client (http://filezilla-project.org/)

STEPS

  1. Open Filezilla FTP Client
(Windows: Start > All Programs > Filezilla Client > Filezilla)

    Filezilla open

  2. Click the "File" menu followed by the "Site Manager" item on that menu. A dialog box will appear.

    Site Manager

  3. Click the "New Site" button on the initial dialog box.
    - This creates a new item under the "My Sites" folder icon called "New site"

  4. Rename "New site" to the name of your site so you may easily refer to it later. By default, the keyboard cursor would have been placed in the name portion of "New site" allowing you to change the name immediately. If you have lost the cursor because you accidentally clicked somewhere else in the dialog box, you can get it back by simply clicking once on the name.

  5. In the "General" tab section enter the domain of your site (or FTP Server address) in the "Host" input box. In below example we have entered "www.mydomain.com" as our sample web site address, this is not a valid address and you must replace with your web site address here.
    - Leave Port input filed empty
    - Servertype: select "FTP - File Transfer Protocol"
    - Logontype: select "Normal"
    - User: enter your FTP server username
    - Password: enter your FTP password.
    - Account: leave empty
    - Comments: you may enter any descriptive text here you wish about this account definition.

Click OK button to save this Site definition and exit this dialog box.

  6. You can now connect to your web site via FTP by using the "Connect" button arrow connect button and select your site name you just created.

  7. If your credentials are correct you should be connected to your web site and be able to commence uploading/downloading files. Your local hard drive is located in the left pane and the "Remote site" (right pane) is your web site files.
